Ever wondered if a Harry Potter concert is really worth it?
I had the exact same question before attending Deathly Hallows Part 1 with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. It was magical. So when Part 2 came to town, I knew I had to be there for the finale.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 live in concert was a cinematic, emotional, and musical rollercoaster. Between the full symphony, the roar of the crowd, and the chills from every iconic scene, I cried, cheered and got goosebumps more than once.
If you’re on the fence about seeing a film-in-concert, or you’re curious about what made this Harry Potter concert in Winnipeg so special, read on to discover everything that made this night unforgettable.

What Made Part 2 So Powerful
Unlike the suspenseful buildup of Part 1, Deathly Hallows Part 2 hits the ground running. The orchestra matched that intensity every step of the way.
🎶 The score by Alexandre Desplat felt like its own character:
- “Lily’s Theme” sent chills down my spine before the first line of dialogue.
- “Statues” exploded with power as McGonagall defended Hogwarts.
- “Battlefield” echoed the chaos and loss in every frame.
- And that final track, “A New Beginning,” Absolutely breathtaking live.
It was emotional. It was epic. It was everything I hoped it would be.
🧣Check out this Gryffindor scarf. It’s just like the ones fans wore at the concert.
Standout Musical Moments from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra
The WSO brought this powerful score to life with such precision and heart. Here are just a few of the magical musical highlights that stayed with me:
- The haunting solo during Snape’s Memories. It was so heartbreaking
- The chaos of the courtyard battle. You could feel the panic
- The emotional weight behind the Resurrection Stone scene
- The soft nostalgia in the 19 Years Later epilogue, what a perfect ending
Every section of the orchestra had its moment to shine.
Balcony vs Front Rows
For Part 1, we sat in the balcony section. For Part 2, we tried something different and booked seats closer to the front. And let me tell you, both have their perks.
Closer to the stage: You’re immersed in the sound. You can see the musicians’ movements, feel the vibrations and get caught up in the conductor’s rhythm.

Balcony view: Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this perspective a little more. You can see the full orchestra setup from above and watch how everything come together.
Whichever you choose, you’re in for a magical experience but I recommend trying both if you have the chance.
Audience Energy & Unexpected Moments
Before the film even began, conductor Julian Pellicano stepped onto the stage and set the tone for the night. He encouraged us all to cheer for our Hogwarts houses and surprisingly, it was Slytherin who roared the loudest.

I expected Gryffindor to dominate but the Slytherins clearly came ready to represent. Honestly? Iconic. My house, Hufflepuff, also cheered loudly. We may be humble, but we show up!
Big cheers erupted during these moments:
- The thrilling escape from Gringotts on a dragon
- Molly Weasley defeating Bellatrix Lestrange
- Neville Longbottom slaying Nagini like the brave Gryffindor he is
But the magic wasn’t just on stage. It was in the audience too.
Many fans showed up in costume. House robes, scarves and wands. There’s just something so heartwarming about seeing generations of Potterheads dressed up to celebrate a story we all love.

And about that unexpected moment…
Partway through the movie, a small disturbance occurred and security had to escort someone out. It happened behind us, so I couldn’t see exactly what was going on but it was briefly distracting.
That said, the staff handled it calmly and professionally. Within minutes, I was back to fully focusing on the magic unfolding on screen.
Reflections on Attending the Final Two Films in Concert
Confession time: I didn’t get to see the entire Harry Potter film concert series, just Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2. But even with just these two, the emotional journey was immense.
From Snape’s heartbreak to the final duel, to that hopeful train scene nineteen years later. I felt like I was saying goodbye to the Wizarding World all over again. And hearing it performed live? It brought the whole story full circle.
What’s Next at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra?
The WSO is known for its film concerts, and they’ve brought everything from Star Wars to Indiana Jones to life on stage. While this may be the end of the Harry Potter series (for now), I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on their upcoming concerts.

FAQ’s
Is the Harry Potter concert with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra worth it?
Absolutely! If you’re a Potterhead or even just love epic film scores, this experience is pure magic. Seeing Deathly Hallows Part 2 with live music adds emotion, depth and drama to every scene. I laughed, cried and got chills.
Can kids attend the Harry Potter concert?
Yes, it’s family-friendly! There were plenty of kids in costume at the event. Just keep in mind that Deathly Hallows Part 2 is darker and more intense than the earlier films. If your kids have seen the movie before and love Harry Potter, they’ll likely enjoy the live concert experience.
Where can I buy tickets for the Harry Potter concert in Winnipeg?
Tickets are usually available through the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s official website. These events tend to sell out fast, especially for popular films like Harry Potter, so I recommend booking early. You can check upcoming performances here.
Final Thoughts: Would I Go Again? Always.
This was more than a concert. More than a film. It was a love letter to the series that shaped a generation. It was a reminder of how powerful music can be.
And for me, it was the perfect farewell to the Wizarding World.

So yes, if the WSO ever brings Harry and friends back to the big screen with a full symphony behind them, I’ll be there.
